THE MINOR

Project |01 Why I Write

For our first project of the semester, we were tasked to explore why we write. Additionally, this project was an opportunity to set goals for ourselves within this class and the writing minor. We could choose any medium we liked so long as our work was synthesized around a guiding idea and supported with careful analysis. Because the writing I'm enjoying most currently is new media writing, I chose to present my project as a Prezi modeling a Twitter homepage.

Project |02 Repurposing

Our next assignment was to take a past piece of writing, academic or not, and repurpose it for a new audience within a new medium. This was my first experience defining and experimenting with rhetoric. I decided to repurpose a personal blog post I wrote in Winter 2013 about a hummus experience in Jerusalem that continues to impact me. By deciding to transform my blog post into a food magazine article, my audience shifted from family and friends to legitimate foodies. I also began to develop an argument surrounding the commercialization of hummus for picky American palates in contrast to my very authentic Israeli hummus experience.

Project |03 Remediation

The final project of the semester involved transforming our "Repurposing" project for a new medium. This time, I expanded my definition of rhetoric to include digital rhetoric. In taking my magazine article and transforming it into a Tumblr page, my audience remained consistent, while my argument changed slightly. Now, I looked even deeper at some of the political/cultural Middle Eastern conflicts hummus has played a role in. Be sure to check out my attempts at an Infographic about Sabra Hummus!
