ABOUT ME

I'm a Communication Studies major and Writing minor at the University of Michigan. As the final project for my Writing minor introduction course, we were tasked with creating an electronic portfolio that best embodied ourselves as writers.

In 3rd grade, I thought I was the most kick-ass writer in the world. Based on the five paragraph essays we had been learning to write, my excellent standardized test essays, and my excelling in “Wordly Wise,” I was convinced that my writing future was bright. As I’ve developed into the writer I am today, I’ve come to realize that sometimes given more creative and organizational freedom, writing can be much more difficult. The writing opportunities I have had thus far at U of M, in new media for this class, on my personal food blog, and for the organizations I am in outside of class, have challenged me to step outside of the limitations much of early academic writing presents and to develop my writing personality. I chose to minor in writing for opportunities like this portfolio; to develop my writing skills, both academic and not, in a variety of genres and for a variety of media.

This portfolio focuses primarily on how and why I write, but to give you a complete representation of myself, here’s a three-sentence encapsulation of myself:

1. Originally from Chicago, which in my opinion, is one of the best cities in the world, I grew up in a food loving family which has shaped my passion for all things food and restaurants.

2. My perfect day would consist of 75 degree weather, a long morning run, time to read a book on my deck, baking something delectable, and would conclude with a reality TV marathon on my couch with friends.

3. If you gave me a blank, paid-in full plane ticket and told me I could go anywhere in the world right now, I would go to Cape Town, Sydney, Jerusalem and New York City.

Optimally, I will find a career combining my passion for food with my interest in media. Whatever I end up doing, it must involve opportunites to play with writing. Click here to access my resume, which will give you an even clearer picture of where I've been and where I want to go next.

I get much more excited about writing in journals nowadays...
