Repurposing

My repurposing project, in which I transformed a personal food blog post for the culinarily-inclined readers of "Saveur" magazine, required A LOT of brainstorming. I had to determine the best way to present an enertaining article that also made a case for the great cultural implications of hummus. I knew I wanted to expand on my blog's description of an authentic hummus stall I fell in love with in Jerusalem's old city. I also knew I wanted to include restaurant reviews and a list of restaurants similar to those found in food magazines like "Saveur" and "Bon Appetit." However, it took some thinking to determine the best balance of history and sociopolicitcal contexts within which hummus was intertwined with personal anecdotes. I found that organizing my article by giving a brief history of hummus, then talking about my personal experience, contrasting it to commercial forms of hummus in the US, and finally wrapping up with some local restaurant reviews was most effective in getting across my exigence.
